Top 16/Top 32 Brackets

Okay guys, before I even created this forum and the whole competition idea, I had the idea of scraping just under/over 16 people for the competition from my good friends that still drift with me and my team actively on a daily basis. Turns out that after I sent out a message to a lot of the people that I knew were active(ish) that word got around a bit, and it seems like we're actually pushing good numbers for the competition. This is really good! And if you guys end up sticking to that, this competition is going to be really fun for you and all of the competitors around you.

With a few guys I know of that are seriously interested in this competition that haven't signed up yet, I know we're going to have even more people added on to the 24 people that have already obtained their D1 STREET LEGAL 2014/15 Licenses so far. Which means we're actually pushing further and further towards a possible Top 32 bracket. However, this all depends on who turns up and who doesn't.

So - with that in mind, I thought that if we have under a certain amount of people, let's say under 24 people, that we run a Top 16 bracket. That will mean that there would be a couple of more disappointed people who might not make the cut. However, if we can get over 24 people to show up for qualifying, (let's say 26 people showed up) we could just get a Top 32 bracket with the Top 6 qualifiers getting by-runs. That way, everyone would qualify! But we do need enough people.

Let me know what you guys think.

I think 6 people getting by-runs is a bit too much, plus with this being of the most competitive sports in the world people will get disappointed but it's just how it goes in any other sport.

My vote is top 16 unless we could get more than 32 people.

Yeah, I do see your point. I mean, I believe there's only meant to be 16 qualifiers if we stay true to the real thing but there's not just that, it's making it fun for everybody.

Your point is very valid though, we don't want the top runners to have an easy breeze.

My vote is 32 or bust. Unless it's like 30 drivers. 2 byes isn't a big deal imo.

i think that if people get byes, we should pull a number from a hat and who ever qualified there gets a bye. so everybody has a chance at a bye and not just the people that qualify in the first few spots

That would mess around with the bracket though, and would make things far more complex than they need to be.

I think we're probably going with Top 16 unless we have over 29 people.
